The Dinosaur Game, also known as the Chrome Dino or T-Rex Runner, was created by a team of Google Chrome developers in 2014. Their goal was to turn the frustration of losing internet into a moment of lighthearted fun.
Designers Sebastien Gabriel, Alan Bettes, and Edward Jung wanted something that reflected the “prehistoric” state of being offline — a time before Wi-Fi, social media, and endless streaming. And what better symbol than a dinosaur?
The result was a game so simple it could run even when your internet connection couldn’t. It loaded instantly, required no downloads, and fit perfectly into Chrome’s minimalist spirit.
Little did they know that their tiny offline dino would become a global icon — an unintentional symbol of patience, nostalgia, and perseverance.
